Arrival of the first B747 Alitalia Italian Airlines in May 1970
Ceremony for the arrival of the first B747 Alitalia Italian Airlines at Leonardo da Vinci airport in May 1970.
Alitalia — Linee Aeree Italiane, operating as Alitalia, was the Italian airline, before becoming Alitalia — Compagnia Aerea Italiana S.p.A. (English: Alitalia — Italian Air Company) which took over the name, the landing rights, planes and some other assets from the liquidation process of the old Alitalia and the entire Air One.
The name “Alitalia” is an Italian portmanteau of the words ali (wings), and Italia (Italy).
